Barnacle Geese
Mount Edward Lodge is located in one of the best mainland areas to watch wintering Barnacle Geese. They are most regularly seen from October to April each year at Lissadell, Raghly and Cloonagh.
The Barnacle Geese roost most nights on Inishmurray Island and dramatic dusk and dawn flights to and from the island can be seen in the area.
Other Species
Other species that can been seen in the area during Autumn and Winter include:
Whooper Swan, Pink footed Goose, Brent Goose, Canada Goose, Eider Long Tailed Duck, Common Scoter, Red Breasted Merganser, Red Throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, Hen Harrier, Merlin, Peregrine, Little Stint, Curlew Sand Piper, Purple Sand Piper, Dunlin, Arctic Skua, Auks, Leach’s Petrel, Grey Phalarop, Pomarine and Storm Petrel.
